Forbidden roads for driving in Kyrgyzstan

For safety reasons, driving a rental vehicle is prohibited in certain areas of the country:

  • Kok-Ayrik Pass — the road no longer exists / map error
  • Ton Pass — the road no longer exists / map error
  • Tosor Pass — dangerous off-road conditions
  • Arabel Pass — driving is prohibited
  • Altyn-Arashan — driving is prohibited
  • Karakol Gorge — access permitted only up to the second bridge
  • Chatyr-Köl – Kel-Suu Road — all bridges are destroyed
  • Kel-Suu Lake (beyond the yurt camp) — the last 8 km must be covered on foot
  • Enilchek (beyond Maida-Adyr Base Camp) — no bridges across deep rivers
  • Karkara Valley (beyond the base camp) — no bridges across deep rivers
  • Sary-Jaz Valley — dangerous off-road conditions
  • Turasu Valley — no bridges across deep rivers

⚠️ Violation of these restrictions will result in a fine in accordance with the rental agreement and voiding of insurance coverage, as insurance companies in Kyrgyzstan do not insure vehicles operated on these roads.
