Forbidden roads
Forbidden roads for driving in Kyrgyzstan
For safety reasons, driving a rental vehicle is prohibited in certain areas of the country:
- Kok-Ayrik Pass — the road no longer exists / map error
- Ton Pass — the road no longer exists / map error
- Tosor Pass — dangerous off-road conditions
- Arabel Pass — driving is prohibited
- Altyn-Arashan — driving is prohibited
- Karakol Gorge — access permitted only up to the second bridge
- Chatyr-Köl – Kel-Suu Road — all bridges are destroyed
- Kel-Suu Lake (beyond the yurt camp) — the last 8 km must be covered on foot
- Enilchek (beyond Maida-Adyr Base Camp) — no bridges across deep rivers
- Karkara Valley (beyond the base camp) — no bridges across deep rivers
- Sary-Jaz Valley — dangerous off-road conditions
- Turasu Valley — no bridges across deep rivers
⚠️ Violation of these restrictions will result in a fine in accordance with the rental agreement and voiding of insurance coverage, as insurance companies in Kyrgyzstan do not insure vehicles operated on these roads.
